When finding the best mattress for your body type and sleep position, it’s important to understand the various comfort materials and support technologies that are in each model.

Recommendations For Different Sleep Positions

Identifying your sleep position is the most effective way to start narrowing down which type of mattress is best for you.

Side Sleeper

Side Sleeper

While side sleepers are less likely to suffer from snoring or airflow issues, they can still experience hip, back, or neck pain if their mattress is too firm. If you sleep on your side, you should opt for a softer bed—one that will contour to the curves of your body. A mattress with softer support will relieve pressure points and keep your neck, spine, and back in alignment. Individually-wrapped coil mattresses with plush features such as memory foam, pillow tops, and Euro-Tops offer many advantages to side sleepers.

Stomach Sleeper

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers should opt for a medium firm mattress to ensure proper support for your spine. A medium firm mattress will stop your pelvis from sinking too far down during sleep, which would cause your spine to fall out of alignment. That said, be careful that you don’t choose a mattress that’s too firm as very firm mattresses can keep your spine too flat instead of allowing it to find its natural S-shaped curve. Innerspring mattresses with comfort layers that feature pressure-relieving memory foam or latex are often ideal for stomach sleepers.

Back Sleeper

Back Sleepers

Back sleepers can sleep on both firm and soft mattresses depending on personal preference and body type. The main thing for back sleepers to keep in mind is that your mattress needs to provide excellent lower back support. Supporting the arch in your lower back is how back sleepers can keep their spines in alignment. Medium to firm mattresses with robust coil or hybrid support systems are great for keeping your back flat in general, and, if you need more support for your lower back, features like memory foam, latex, and pillow tops can be excellent.

COMFORT LAYER MATERIALS

Comfort layers provide pressure relief while you rest. Different comfort materials provide a different feel, so it's important to test various types to find the best mattress for your sleep position and body type. Our mattresses feature three types of materials in our comfort layers:

High Density Foam

1. High Density Foam

High Density Foam is the standard foam found in mattress comfort layers. Although it is quite comfortable, high-density foam doesn’t have the same “soft, indulgent feel” as memory foam or latex. The high-density foam we use in our mattresses is 50% more resilient than many of our competitors' foams.

Memory Foam

2. Memory Foam

Memory foam is a comfort material that’s known for its body-conforming prowess. Memory foam provides premier pressure point relief and usually indicates a softer-feeling mattress, though some types of memory foam are less breathable than their high-density foam counterparts.

Latex

3. Latex

Latex is an all-natural comfort layer material that provides pressure point relief similar to memory foam, but with high resiliency and increased breathability. Latex and memory foam are both known for increasing softness in general, though latex has a “springier” feel that some prefer. We use premium, natural HeveaPUR latex in our Denver Mattress latex mattresses.

MATTRESS SUPPORT SYSTEMS

The primary feature that differentiates mattresses is the internal support system. A mattress’s support system distributes body weight and can help to keep your spine in neutral alignment. Our mattresses feature three types of support systems:

Innerspring

1. Innerspring

An innerspring coil unit is a traditional mattress support system which provides support through a network of coils that are directly connected to one another in order to deliver a unified sleeping surface.

Individual Coils

2. Individual Coils

Individually-wrapped coil units feature coils which reside in their own fabric pockets instead of being directly attached to their neighbors. Because each coil can flex independently of its neighbor, individually-wrapped coils provide more conformity to the curves of your body, and they minimize motion transfer between partners.

Foam or Latex

3. Foam or Latex

Foam or latex cores are an alternative to innerspring and coil units. These mattresses are great for providing an indulgent sense of support and are the best at minimizing motion transfer, but they may not provide the same sense of firmness or breathability compared to innerspring support systems.
